During these uncertain times people are often talking about love, but they never take the time to understand where love comes from, and what it really means to love.

  1. Love is God because God is love. (1 John 4:7-8)
  2. God proved His love toward us. (Romans 5:6-8 NKJV)

In this context, God is not talking about us loving anything else but Him for our own blessings.

So, why should love God? The response is biblically simple: Because He first loves us.   (I John 4:19 NKJV)

God, through Jesus Christ, came on earth to deliver us from eternal death. The door is wide open for those who want to be delivered in that same way. But in the context of Psalms 91, it is for the daily things that are happening in our life, after we have accepted the love of God, that we need deliverance from. For example, what is going on in the world right now.

When we accept to respond positively to that great love, we also receive some great blessings in return.

These are blessings that we receive from the Lord because of our love for Him, in this critical time that we are living on earth.

  1. Our deliverance is the result of our love for God. Ps. 91 V. 14a

Our deliverance will also be the deliverance of whoever is living around us because we love God. Things that could take more time to get a solution, will take less time because of God’s love for His church.

  1. They are protected because of His name. V. 14b

God said that He will set those who love Him on High. To set us on high, it’s to protect us as His name is Yahweh-Roi or Jehovah-Roi, The God who sees us, Our Shepherd.

  1. They can call on His name at any time and He will answer. V. 15.

 - He will be with us in good and bad seasons.

- He will deliver us

- He will glorify us.

Why? Just because we call on His name when we are in trouble. He answers because He loves us as we also love Him.

He promises deliverance for His people who are called by His name. (2 Chronicles 7:14 NKJV).

  1. He promises them long life and complete deliverance. V. 16.

If we believe that we are loved by God and are His children, and we really love God for who He is, what are we afraid of? We depend on Him and nothing can happen to us without His permission.  (Numbers 23:19 NKJV; Ephesians 6:1-3).

Questions for reflection:

  1. Do you love God?
  2. Do you know that God loves you?
  3. Do you know His name?
  4. Who do you call in time of distress?
  5. Who is your protector?
  6. Do you submit your life to Him already, even though you go to church?
  7. Do you want to give your life to Him?
